Sesame Street Turns 40!

I thought this was soo cute, I wish I could have saved the image they used yesterday with Big Bird. Sesame Street is celebrating 40 years since it premiered. There's an article about it:

13 Year Anniversary

13 years ago, today, David and I laid eyes on each other. Since I only had the early afternoon available, we ate lunch at Coyote Canyon.

I got a complaint

I am so upset and furious at the same time! Yesterday at work, I got several callers looking for a patient. The patient did not show up in my census, so I kept telling the family members that he was not in the hospital. They kept telling me that he's been there all day, so I told them that I can connect them with the floor he was on so they could speak with a nurse. Well after I transferred the call, the floor transferred the same call back to me, so they family member was more infuriated. I called the nurse's station and asked if they had that patient? They said they did but he was transferred to the behavioral center (Psych unit @ another facility). Well once they go there, we cannot give information if the patient is here or not. Also she didn't know if they can give out any info to the family. So I told her I would ask the hospital supervisor. The stupid supervisor never answered my call or overhead pages. I got this one man a couple of times and he was already frustrated because I couldn't find his father so he asked my name, then he tells me he's going to report me. I told him ok and gave him my name. I didn't do anything wrong.

Well today my supervisor talks to me and asks me what happened so I tell her my story. Well the guy said that I hung up on him 3 times...that was the complaint.

I'm not going to lie, I have hung up on people before but that's when they resort to name calling, etc. but I did not hang up on this man.

Now I have to play the waiting game to see what's going to happen. People suck!

In good news, I lost a total of 18 pounds this month, so I'm down to 316

Shattered Window

David and I spoke with the landlord yesterday and told him about the rock hitting the car window. He told us the groundsman told him about it and what would we like him to do about it. We told him the cheapest way we knew of obtaining and installing a window and he told us to just bring him a receipt.

Thank God!

I got a new purse!

David bought me this purse yesterday while we were shopping at Sunrise Mall. There's a new store there called, Charming Charlie. Its like a boutique and the way the store is setup is by colors and there's an wonderful smell of different scented candles in the air.

Lost 15 Pounds!

Well I finally weighed myself this morning...319.8! Its already been 3 weeks and I'm down 15 pounds! The scale wasn't moving for awhile there. I lost 11 pounds in the first 4 days then nothing, nothing and nothing til this morning.

I got a shattered car window

Yesterday, my driver side window got shattered. I believe the groundskeeper did it. He was cutting the lawn in front of the duplex and the patch next to where I park my car is mostly rocks and dirt. I bet that lawnmower shot a rock straight to my window. Thing is, I have no proof. I even called the police to make a police report but he told me the same thing. Since I didn't see anything, not much can be done. The good thing is that the tint is holding all that shattered glass together til I can get it fixed, God willing next week.

Peptic Ulcer?

My doctor thinks I might have a peptic ulcer so he wants me to get a colonoscopy. My first one! That will be done in a couple of weeks.
Tomorrow I get to weigh in. I'm not really excited about it. I feel like I lost inches instead of pounds, but we'll see tomorrow.

I Feel So Tired

I didn't want to get out of bed this morning. It was already 11am when I started getting a cramp in my left calf. Then as I was standing up, I got it even worse on my right calf. I've noticed that when I get up and when I'm going to sleep, my body is just achy and tired all over. I hate that. I was hoping with some weight loss those feelings will slowly disappear? Well, I'm still waiting. I went to my mother's house and fell back to sleep for another couple of hours. I'm dreading going to the doctor's office tomorrow. I hate waiting.

Abnormal Test Results

This morning I got a call from my doctor's office because he found my fecal occult blood test abnormal (stool sample). He called in some kind of medication to my pharmacy and he wants to see me on Monday. I hate all this waiting plus he'll probably make me pay another office visit...grr! I just hope its nothing major.

I originally got this test because I had complained that the plasma center kept telling me that my iron was low. I did some research and found that blood found in the stool can be from:

* Benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous) growths or polyps of the colon.

* Hemorrhoids (swollen blood vessels near the anus and lower rectum that can rupture, causing bleeding).

* Anal fissures (splits or cracks in the lining of the anal opening).

* Intestinal infections that cause inflammation.

* Ulcers.

* Ulcerative colitis.

* Crohn's disease.

* Diverticular disease, caused by outpouchings of the colon wall.

* Abnormalities of the blood vessels in the large intestine.

Now, I don't think its cancerous because he wouldn't just tell me to get medication. I really don't have any bleeding, so I don't think its hemorrhoids. I've had Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) before so it could be peptic ulcers?

Day 6

Its day 6 on Atkins. I'm suppose to weigh myself tomorrow, God willing. I have no idea how much I'll be weighing but I'm nervous. This evening there was a customer appreciation ceremony at work, so they gave out punch and cake. Well, I didn't go but the cake was brought to me. It smells good, but I'm not tempted to eat it. I guess I'll give it to hubby since mom is on a diet too.

Down 11 pounds!

So I went to the doctor this morning. It was a very long wait! GRRR! The doctor checked my thryoid and my iron because its been low lately. He actually lowered my dosage amount on my levothyroxine and he said my iron was fine. I'm suppose to be taking cholesterol medication but he said we'll see how I'm doing on my diet and decide later if I need to get back on it. I then went to weigh myself at HEB because the stupid doctor's scale only goes up to 300 pounds. I was down to 323.3. That's 11 pounds I've lost since Tuesday. Its only been 4 days! How exciting!!!

Doing well on diet

I've been doing well on my diet and will weigh myself tomorrow. I'm also thinking about going to see my doctor. I'm way overdue and need to get my thyroid medication. I hope he can check out my iron level as well.

Tuesday, September 29, 2009

I'm back on a diet

Well I started back on my Atkins diet for the 2nd time this year. I did really well last year, I don't know why I can't keep it up? I'm tired of my heel hurting and being tired all the time and having zero energy. I must stay on it. I'm weighing in at 334.5. My highest ever was 363. The most I ever lost was 70 pounds, so I must keep trying.

Blockbuster Online

Well since last week, I've been trying Blockbuster online. They have a good variety of movies but I wanted to check out some tv shows first. I received my first copy of the first season of, "The Office" within a few days. I kept it a few days and mailed it off this past Tuesday. They should have received it by now, but I haven't gotten any emails. I'm beginning not to like this plan. I remember back 5 years ago, I tried NetFlix for a month and they were pretty quick.

We'll see what happens.

Its Not My Day

It was not my day yesterday. I dropped a whole roll of toilet paper in the toilet, I didn't notice til late in the evening that the back of my dress had a huge tear in it and I broke my living room window accidently. I sat down and was getting comfortable when I heard the glass shatter. Luckily, David patched it up with cardboard for now.

Sunday, September 13, 2009

We're almost done

Well we're 95% moved in since last night. David found a guy with a truck who would help him about 9 pm last night for $70. Thank God! That's alot of stress of my mind.

I saw this on Singnap and had to post. Its too funny!

I don't want to move anymore!

Its been a very stressful day trying to find someone with a truck. I found 2 different guys, but they gave me the runaround all day til the evening time. I don't want to move anymore.

Feeling Like A Wet Dog

It rained last night but I didn't hear it. We got up around noon today and went to the light company. It was nice and cloudy. We spent about an hour in there. It felt like we were at a welfare office. It started sprinkling, so we then went to Time Warner Cable to transfer services for Tuesday. That didn't take long at all. We went to La Michoacana to take advantage of a sale where you purchase $10 worth of food and get a 10 pound bag of chicken leg quarters for $1.90 (limit 2). So we got ourselves some ribeyes for tonight and the chicken. When we were done it was pouring and the streets started flooding. I couldn't lock my car because my keychain got wet. We went to eat at Jack in the Box and we were slipping and sliding all over the place. I had to go to work next. The streets were terribly flooded. You would think they would fix this problem by now. It always happens. Its terrible! I got to work drenched, even though I got dropped off. Now I feel like a wet dog.

Can't wait til this is over

I had so many things to do today but only got half of them done. I hate that! I did get the key to the duplex and finally got to inspect the house. The sink in the restroom was turned off and was missing some pipe. I'm glad the maintenance guy was there cause he's gonna have to fix that. The place is really old school, when you turn on the lights, you press a button to turn it on and another to turn it off. I think my dining room table is going to be too big, but it will have to do for now. I also found in the living room closet is a fold out bed! It needs a mattress though. I've never seen one of those, lol. I wish we were moved already. I'm still stressing on finding someone with a truck!

Happy Birthday, Dad!

Today would have been my dad's 61st birthday.

Friday, September 4, 2009

I found a new home

Yay! I put a $200 deposit on a duplex that's for rent. We can finally start moving after I pay the 1st month's rent on Wednesday! Now the next thing I have to worry about is finding a truck to haul my junk.

Final Destination in 3D

Last night, David and I saw, Final Destination in 3D. Our first 3D movie! It sure wasn't like the old days when you used paper glasses with one red eye lens and the other was blue and you could see red/blue lines around the images on screen. This was actually 3D! Stuff was flying off the screen into my face! Cars, blood, hands reaching out, etc. I can't believe I took so long to see a 3D movie. The movie was mediocre and the price was $21.50 for the both of us including the glasses, but the experience was well worth it! I wish every movie was in 3D!!!

I'm practically online everyday at home or my mother's house or at work. The only days I don't really get on is when I'm off.

New Texas State Laws

Starting today we got some new state laws in effect:

-all occupants in a vehicle are required to wear seatbelts, front seat and back seat folks. (I'm glad I never sit in a back seat).

-any child younger than 8 years of age be restrained in an approved child passenger safety seat unless the child is at least 4 feet, 9 inches in height.

-You cannot use a cellphone in a school zone (If it were up to me, you shouldn't use one at all when you're driving).

-You get an automatic license suspension if driving under the influence and you have a child riding with you. (Duh, that should have gone into effect a long time ago).

-new Texas residents are allowed to drive without a Texas license for 90 days instead of the current 30 days.

-increases the total hours of behind-the-wheel driving instruction a teen receives from 14 to 34 and creates an adult driver education requirement for applicants older than 18 and younger than 21.

-A 6 hour driver education course is required for applicants 18 and over

-Minors can now be charged with public intoxication (good!)

-a vehicle equipment safety compliance label be placed on a windshield, side or rear window stating that the window tinting complies with the appropriate provisions of the Transportation Code. Failing to place the required label on the vehicle could lead to a $1,000 fine. (I must look into this)

My Vacation

I haven't posted in awhile. Alot has been happening. I took a week off from work for my vacation. David and I went to the South Padre Island and shopping in McAllen, then my computer got stolen from my mother's house and David came into the emergency room with sciatica. Mom got herself a new pc and David's back is feeling better, thank God. Now he's visiting his family in Rosenberg for 2 weeks and I'm staying with my mother til he gets back. I'm thinking of getting a new hairdo...hmm.

Feeling Better

Thank God that pain only lasted 3 days. I hope to never feel that again.

I've got a pain in the butt

I forgot to post about my latest ailment/affliction. Since I got off of work on Friday evening, I got this dull pain in my left buttock. It hurt to walk when I stepped on my left foot and I couldn't sit/lay on my left side all night and most of Saturday. I took Ibuprofen and Excedrin, but they didn't even soothe any of the pain. Thank God my husband was there to lend a helping hand with my personal needs such as bathing, etc. By Sunday, I was feeling 60% better but by that evening, the pain was back. I dreaded coming in to work on Monday afternoon. Mom gave me some icy hot type cream and that would dull some of the pain for the rest of the night. Today, around noon, I actually started feeling 90% better. I had done some research online and learned that what I'm experiencing is Piriformis Syndrome. Its a muscle deep in your butt cheek and near your sciatic nerve. And like any muscle it can get cramped if over/underworked. I did some stretching exercises to help with the pain. Hopefully this pain will never come back again.

One Mind Ministries

I don't know how long 1 Mind Ministries has been around, but from what I've read of them, members wear all white garments, they are given titles like queens and princess and they believe women should give birth with no help from doctors. I've recently read that back in August 2008, Ria Ramkissoon, 21, also known as "Princess Marie (21) was starving her 21-month-old son, Javon Thompson because he wouldn't say Amen after meals. They believed he had a demon. This eventually led to his death. On top of that, they kept his remains in a suitcase up to a year because they believed he would be raised from the dead.

I know sometimes its easy to join a cult, but come on, you have to have no sense at all to be starving your own child!

Introducing Google Voice

I got an invite from Google Voice yesterday. I tried it out today and its awesome! You can have all your phones forwarded to a GV number that you can pick and it will record voicemails for you. They will even transcribe the message and send it to your gmail. You can also use it to make calls and send text messages. You are also able to make international calls for a small price, but I was impressed with everything else. There's still other stuff I can do with it, but I haven't learned it all yet. I will definitely keep using this application in the future.

King David's Palace Found!

How Jewish is Jerusalem?

You might think that's a silly question, but in the world of academia, revisionist history and even biblical archaeology, scholars have cast the shadow of doubt over Judaism's intrinsic connection to Jerusalem. The Moslem Waqf, the religious authority that administers the Temple Mount -- the site of Judaism's First and Second Temples -- has been claiming for years that there was never a temple there. But the idea that Israel is the historic homeland of the Jewish people and Jerusalem its holy capital has been under attack from far more reputable sources in recent decades as well.

For a growing number of academics and intellectuals, King David and his united kingdom of Judah and Israel, which has served for 3,000 years as an integral symbol of the Jewish nation, is simply a piece of fiction. The biblical account of history has been dismissed as unreliable by a cadre of scholars, some of whom have an overtly political agenda, arguing that the traditional account was resurrected by the Zionists to justify dispossessing Palestinian Arabs. The most outspoken of these is Keith Whitelam of the Copenhagen School which promotes an agenda of "biblical minimalism," whose best-known work is The Invention of Ancient Israel: The Silencing of Palestinian History.

Even in Israel, this new school has found its voice. Israel Finkelstein, chairman of Tel Aviv University's Department of Archaeology, began championing a theory several years ago that the biblical accounts of Jerusalem as the seat of a powerful, unified monarchy under the rule of David and Solomon are essentially false. The scientific methods for his assumptions, called a "lower dating" which essentially pushes archaeological evidence into a later century and thus erases all evidence of a Davidic monarchy, were laughed off by traditional archaeologists. But his book, The Bible Unearthed, wound up on the New York Times' best-seller list and he became the darling of a sympathetic media. He concluded that David and Solomon, if they existed at all, were merely "hill-country chieftains" and Jerusalem a poor, small tribal village. He claims that the myth of King David was the creation of a cult of priests trying to create for themselves a glorious history.

Story Continues

World's Oldest Bible

Yesterday, the oldest bible ever found was translated and put online for all to see. The Codex Sinaiticus was hand-written by four scribes in Greek on animal hide, known as vellum, in the mid-fourth century around the time of the Roman emperor Constantine the Great who embraced Christianity. The manuscript contains the Christian Bible in Greek, including the oldest complete copy of the New Testament.

There's a bug in my food

So David and I went to eat at Lin's Chinese buffet yesterday and we just sat down to eat when he started picking at his broccoli and beef and pulled out a crispy caterpillar. Poor thing looked like he was eating on broccoli himself when he got cooked to death. We showed our server and he took it to management who compensated us by giving us a free meal next time we go there. I was grossed out for a minute, but do you think I stopped eating? Nope. Of course I didn't have any broccoli and beef either. I'll still be looking forward to my free meal

RIP Michael Jackson

Today Michael Jackson as well as Farrah Fawcett passed away. I was more shocked with Michael passing because it wasn't expected. I mostly remember him from the mid 80's when he came out with that Thriller album. Seems everyone liked his music or knew who he was at that time. I remember I even had a red/black jacket like the one he wore in his, "Thriller" video.

Disappointed

Well its been over a month and I went this morning for my 2nd time to donate plasma this week. Again, my hematocrit level was too low. It was 2 points too low. The good thing is that I didn't wait long at but the bad thing is I need to see a doctor about this because I am taking iron pills?

A woman sees the Virgin Mary on a tortilla

HARLINGEN - A Harlingen woman says she experienced a miracle; the image of the Virgin Mary on a tortilla.

The woman says her husband was making tortillas when they noticed the image. She says that seeing the Virgin Mary is a privilege because she has a lot of faith.

The tortilla now has its own display case. The couple has also taken it to church to have it blessed by a priest.

krgv.com

If I had a quarter for every Mary sighting in the rio grande valley, I would not have to work anymore. Even when I was a Catholic, I couldn't understand why these followers had so much faith and adoration for this woman? Doesn't it tell us throughout the whole bible that God is a jealous God and doesn't want us to worship or adore anyone or anything else? I wasn't about to keep praying, "Hail Mary" or put up any statues of her or any of the other saints, etc. Confront any Catholic and they'll argue til their blue in the face that nothing is wrong in worshipping her. Come on, Commandment #1: "You shall have no other gods before Me." Commandment #2: "You shall not make for yourself a carved image--any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth."

So why do you still give glory to a tortilla or a tree or the side of the house with an image?!?

Happy Father's Day, Dad

I use to be such a daddy's girl when I was little. We didn't have many things growing up, but just the little things like going to the park and driving around town or going to the dollar movies meant alot. Dad rarely drank and he hated smoking...like me. I appreciate him working hard, even getting two jobs so we can make ends meet. He would even let my mother and I share his tips. I like that he was a quiet man and never was confrontational. I would love to cook special meals when he got home from work. Mom and I would hide and always surprise him. It makes me cry when I see Xmen or the new one, Wolverine. He liked those kinds of movies, alot. I wish he could have seen 1 more.

Company eliminating positions and benefits

Yesterday, we were told that the hospital I work for is letting go of some employees and cutting back on some of our benefits. We no longer get free medication from the hospital's outpatient pharmacy, we can't sell back vacation hours, hour for hour, its 2 hours for 1 hour now and I also heard that my department might be transferred to the Harlingen hospital...grr!

Rejected a third time

Well I tried to donate plasma again this morning and for the 3rd time, I was rejected. Now I'm suspended for a month. The tonic I was taking had the same milligrams as the iron in my multivitamins so it made little difference. My iron level went up another point from last Wednesday. 38 is passing and I scored a 36. My lowest was at 34 last Monday, so its slowly going up. I'm hoping to get on some iron pills and see how that goes and I'll take a break from all that donating for now.

Yearly Gift

Well the other day, the hospital I work at gave out their yearly gifts to their employees. It was a hand held vacuum for the car.

Stomach Virus

It seems like I get this once a year and last night, I got it again. After I finished with my dinner, I had a sharp pain in my stomach that would come and go all night long. I had to go to sleep early because I work in the morning, but the pain wouldn't let me sleep. I finally threw up at 6 in the morning and decided to call in because I didn't know how much longer this pain was gonna last and I might need to go to the doctor. I dozed off but the pain was there til noon. I finally got some much needed rest and thanked God I didn't need to go to the doctor.

Slightly Anemic

I've been trying to donate some plasma and I've been denied twice this week. They tell me my iron level is too low. Its been at 34 and 35 and should be around 38. I've been doing some research online to see what I can do to get back up to a normal level. Eating red meats isn't helping me any. I guess I need to take some iron pills and see how that goes.

They have the best desserts because of the varieties they have. There's pecan pies, chocolate pies, lemon meringue pies, jello, pudding, red velvet cake, chocolate cake, carrot cake, ice cream with toppings and so many other ones that I can't remember right now. I wish I had some of their pineapple millionaire pies right now.

Cinco de Mayo

Today is Cinco de Mayo or the 5th of May. Today is suppose to be a Latin holiday, yet my family has never celebrated this day. In fact, my town is 91% hispanic and they don't make a big fuss about it. I decided to surf the net and see how this holiday came about. It's a popular misconception that Cinco de Mayo is Mexico's Independence Day. The date actually celebrates the 1862 Battle of Puebla, in which Mexican forces stopped an invading French army. Mexico barely celebrates this. The United States and other locations around the world celebrate this day as Mexican heritage and pride. I think Americans just want another day to party.

Swine Flu Outbreak

Recently, Mexico has has an outbreak of swine flu. Swine flu is is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza viruses that causes regular outbreaks in pigs. There's been cases in the thousands in Mexico and around 100 deaths. Its slowly creeping into the US with 40 known cases. Its kind of scary living so close to the border and thousands of Mexican citizens are always visiting the US. There's been several sightings of people wearing face masks in public, here in Brownsville. Working in a hospital is kind of scary also because I have to walk past the ER waiting room and there's always masked patients there.
Mexico has closed down schools and public events.

There are everyday actions people can take to stay healthy.

Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
Try to avoid close contact with sick people.

My Latest Pic

This is my latest photo using Photofunia.

Still looking...

I'm still trying to learn my way around Blogger. I'm using the simple layouts, but I'm looking for something new. I'll probably end up making my own one of these days.

David's Birthday

On Thursday, April 23rd, David celebrated his 34th birthday. We ate at CiCi's and had a delicious tuxedo mousse cake and tried some Sake for the first time.

This is Veronica

I've been trying to start this blog forever, but I guess I'm just lazy is what it all boils down to. My name is Veronica Sanchez, also known as notofthisworld_1973 online. I chose that name because a few years back, I happened to be browsing a Christian online store called, C28. They have lots of alternative style clothing, jewelry, accessories, etc with a Christian theme. One of their most popular logos is "not of this world." They get that from a verse in the bible (Colossians 2:8) Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. Basically, what that means is that we shouldn't follow the ways of human traditions and their thinking, but we should live to please Christ.
I consider myself a non-denominational Christian. I'm still working on getting baptized in the near future. Back to my bio, I'm 36 years old, I've been married to David Sanchez (aka strongerthanevil) for almost 12 years and we've been together for almost 13. We don't have any children, but would like to someday...God willing. I'm an only child and my only parent alive is my mother. Some of my hobbies include couponing, surfing the net, amateur photography, graphic designs, singing karaoke and watching movies. We don't have any pets, but I wouldn't mind raising a baby duck. This blog will contain my thoughts, rants, day to day life, opinions, silliness, pictures, etc. The only thing is that I will post sporadically or when the mood strikes. I also manage a frugal blog: Sweeping the Net and I plan to start a blog about my Bunnyduck: Adventures with Bunnyduck. He's a sweet critter that I owned for the past 2 years. He's got a mind of his own and gets himself into many situations.
